Teenager killed in South Frontenac collision with van
Ontario Provincial Police say a 15-year-old teenager from Kingston was killed after being struck by a van in a rural community in South Frontenac Township on Saturday.
Police say the crash happened at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Rosedale Road, just north of the village of Sydenham.
An investigation found a commercial express van struck the boy, who was walking in the same direction. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
In an update Sunday morning, police said another pedestrian was taken to hospital with minor injuries because of the collision.
The driver, a 57-year-old man from Harrowsmith, was located at the scene and spoke to investigators, police say.
"Alcohol was detected by officers and breath testing was completed at the roadside. The driver registered in the warning range and received an administrative driver's licence suspension, for a three-day period," police said in an update.
"The vehicle was towed from the scene for further examination."
Police closed Rosedale Road between Alton Road East and Freeman Road for several hours. The roads have since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing. Police are asking for any witnesses, dashcam footage or doorball camera views of the collision.
The crash site is located approximately 30 kilometres north of Kingston.
