A new space for relaxing  is causing a stir in New Edinburgh.

Residents say the Beechwood Avenue parklet could become a safety issue for cyclists.

The parklet is in the right hand lane of Beechwood at Springfield, in front of Arturo's restaurant, and is intended to be a spot to sit and relax.

But some residents say,  while the design is nice,  the parklet is not in the right spot.

Marilyn Hart is one of those who believes it is  dangerous.   "The buses come down here.  It's a narrow road and the cyclists have to veer into the centre lane".

The parklet was installed just three weeks ago.  Arturo's owner Richard Primeau says people just need to get used to the concept.

"Once people realize they can come and sit here with a coffee and even bring a sandwich from home, then they realize it's a good idea."

A bike lane is planned for Beechwood Avenue.  In the meantime, area councillor Tobi Nussbaum has posted a diagram to Twitter, explaining the parklet to residents.
