Ottawa’s new tallest building is one step closer to becoming a reality.
The City’s Planning Committee today approved a zoning application by Richcraft to build three condominium towers at the corner of Carling and Preston Street – currently the site of Dow Honda.
The towers will be 18 stories, 45 stories, and 55 stories tall and include a total of 1038 condo units.
It's called "The Sky."
The tallest will tower 10 stories over the latest contender for Ottawa’s tallest building. Claridge Homes has already started construction on the 45 story Icon just a block away.
Concerns were raised at the committee meeting about traffic congestion in Little Italy. But councillors were ultimately pleased with the plan. It now goes before full council later this month.
Even with full approval, it could be several years before Ottawa’s new tallest building becomes a reality. The developers are watching what is currently a very soft condominium market. Richcraft’s Steve Grandmont says it could be another 5 years before they decide how to proceed. “With that magnitude of project we’re going to make sure that we’re doing our homework before we go to market,” says Grandmont.
