Canadian restaurant chain Philthy Philly's coming to Ottawa's ByWard Market
Philthy Philly's, a Canadian cheesesteak sandwich and poutine restaurant, is coming to Ottawa's ByWard Market this year.
Founder Danny Kotsopoulos tells CTV News Ottawa the Newmarket, Ont.-based chain with 38 locations across Canada will be taking over the former Saslove's Meat Market location at 50 ByWard Market Square.

"We're aiming to kick off 2025 with a bang and introduce Ottawa to the irresistible, crave-worthy flavors that have made us a fan favorite," Kotsopoulos said in an email to CTV News Ottawa Friday. "At Philthy Philly's, we're all about smash burgers that are juicy, perfectly crispy on the outside, and packed with flavor; Philly cheesesteaks loaded with tender, savory meat and melty cheese; and of course, our indulgent poutine that's a true comfort food lover's dream. Not to mention, we also serve up pulled pork and fried chicken sandwiches that are so tender and flavorful, they'll have you coming back for more."
The news comes after several other businesses announced their closures in the ByWard Market.
Saslove's closed last fall after seven decades in business and Blue Cactus recently announced its closure after 35 years. Pure Kitchen at the corner of Rideau and William streets closed in later December, as did the Cupcake Lounge's ByWard Market location.
The new Philthy Philly's restaurant is aiming to open by the summer, Kotsopoulos said.
