Ottawa Police confirm shooting victim Christina Voelzing succumbed to her injuries and has died from a weekend shooting in Bells Corners.

The Major Crimes Unit is now investigating Ottawa' sixth homicide of the year.

Ottawa Police were called to Sonnet Crescent around 5 o'clock Easter Sunday morning for shots fired. There police say the 24-year old was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

A candlelight vigil was held outside the Algonquin College student's home last night. Her classmates are struggling to understand how she was caught up in the violence. Flags were flying at half-mast at Algonquin College yesterday.

Staff at the school say she was a bright student ready to graduate from Victimology in a month's time. Voelzing wanted to use her education to work with and support youth in the criminal justice system.

Police believe Voelzing may not have been the intended target.
