Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found in North Grenville, about 40 minutes south of Ottawa.
OPP responded shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night to a report of a body found in the area of County Road 18 and County Road 20, east of Bishop Mills in North Grenville.
"The Ontario Provincial Criminal Investigation Bureau and the OPP Forensic Unit are investigating a suspicious death," said OPP Cst. Cathy Lindsey.
Cst. Lindsey would not comment on reports a passerby found human remains in a bag in the Kemptville Creek and she would not speak directly about evidence markers across a bridge over the Kemptville Creek.
"It's about 5 minutes away, so it's pretty freaky or pretty scary to know that something like that has happened so close to this little community," said Dwight Gifford, a Bishops' Mills resident.
The OPP said they have no reason to believe there is currently a risk to public safety.
"We don't have any reason to believe the public's safety should be a concern at this point," said Lindsey.
Local traffic is being rerouted at Jigg Street until further notice. Road closures could remain in place for the next 24 hours.
The victim's identity has not been released, nor has the individual's gender or age.
Police are asking anyone with information to call them.
