For some Ontario college students, back-to-school may not be smooth sailing this fall.
Support staff at all 24 provincially-funded community colleges will be in a strike position as of Sept. 1.
The current collective agreement between the Ontario Public Service Employees Union and the colleges expires Aug. 31.
In Ottawa, Algonquin College officials say classes will not be interrupted.
If there's a strike, however, lab technicians and administrative support staff are among those who will walk off the job.
The workers want wage parity with college faculty members who recently got a four per cent increase. The support staff voted 69 per cent to strike, if necessary, and nearly 80 per cent voted to reject the latest offer.
OPSEU represents 6,500 college support workers in all 24 colleges. Negotiations continue between the union and Ontario colleges.
