If this is a sign of things to come, her parents better be on their toes.
Veena Gliceria Lezada was born in Ottawa at 5:38 a.m. Friday morning...in the back of her parents minivan. Apparently she couldn't wait for a trip to the hospital.
Her mom, 31-year-old Marivic Lezada, woke her husband Jonald around 4:30 a.m. saying the baby was coming. Thinking they had time. the couple drove from their Orleans home to a relative's house on Gardenvale Road to drop off their other two children before heading to the hospital.
But once in the driveway, Veena had other plans. The baby's head was already crowning. At 5:20 a.m., Jonald called 9-1-1. At 5:28, with an Ottawa Paramedic dispatcher providing instructions on the phone, he and his wife delivered their new daughter right there in the back seat.
Paramedics arrived a minute after that, stabilized the mother and daughter, then transported them to the General Campus of the Ottawa hospital, where all three are doing well.
