St. Patrick's Basilica on Kent Street was packed with hundreds of mourners on Saturday morning, commemorating the life of architect Patrick Murray -- also the former mayor of Rockcliffe Park village.
Several years ago, recalled MPP Jim Watson, Murray and other mayors from the old Regional Municipality of Ottawa Carleton used to go carolling door to door as part of a group called the Old Grey Mayors.
Murray was a loving man, added Watson, and they enjoyed their time working together.
Along with his brother, Tim, Murray constructed several buildings in the Ottawa area -- including Carleton University's Dunton Tower and Robertson Hall, the original footprint of Algonquin College, the Minto Park complex and several structures at the University of Ottawa.
He grew up in Dublin and also did architectural work in several countries outside of North America.
Murray died early January at the age of 76.
