A well-known Ottawa architect and former politician has died.
Patrick Murray, 76, was known for his quick wit and gentle nature.
His designs -- in partnership with his brother Tim -- have left a lasting mark on the City of Ottawa, including Carleton University's Dunton Tower, the original Algonquin College campus and Minto Place Hotel.
Murray also had a keen interest in urban politics, which propelled him into municipal government. He was first elected as a city councillor in Rockcliffe, and later became the city's last sitting mayor before amalgamation from 1985 to 2000.
Murray died Saturday after a fight with cancer. His funeral will be held at St. Patrick's Basilica at 281 Nepean Street on Jan. 9. Visitations will be held Friday at Hulse, Playfair and McGarry at 315 McLeod St.
