Vehicles lined up around the block Monday to take advantage of cheap gas offered for a two-hour period at two east-Ottawa gas stations.

The owners of the Stinson gas station on Innes Road and the Seaway gas station on Cyrville Road were selling regular gas for $1.10 per litre from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A lineup of more than 70 customers wrapped around the street outside the Cyrville Road gas station to get the discount.

One motorist drove from Barrhaven to take advantage of the deal. Another driver told CTV Ottawa it's the first time in three months that he's filled up his entire gas tank.

The owners of the gas stations say they're frustrated by sky-high gas prices, and decided it was time to do something about it.

"The price is going too much high everyday. There's no reason to do this," said Abdallah Jeha, who owns Stinson gas on Innes Road.

The owners say high fuel costs are making it hard for them to do business. Their margin for profit is about three to four cents per litre. So, if gas is selling at $1.29 per litre; they are paying about $1.25 for the product.

They say they're using the two-hour stint to show the government, regulators and the oil and gas industry that gas station owners and motorists can't afford high gas prices.

"For the consumers, you're paying too much for the gas -- talk louder. And for the oil companies, give us a break," said Georges Jeha, who owns the Seaway gas station on Cyrville Road.

Despite the long lineup of customers Monday, the owners predict they will lose about $1,000 over the two hours they're offering cheap gas.

The cost of a litre of regular gasoline spiked to $1.30 at many Ottawa gas stations over the weekend.
