It's a day mothers look forward to all year, when the tables are turned and their kids take care of them.

All kinds of gifts are being given out for Mother's Day on Sunday, with Vicki Machachek heaping praise on her colourful present.

"The girls made me a smoothie and it had the fruits of all the colours of the rainbow," she said. "It was the best smoothie I've ever had and definitely the best Mother's Day gift I've ever got."

"It's been pretty awesome," said Mary Ellen Siba. "(We) went out for breakfast, came downtown to the market, made some funky hats, so we're having a good day."

Every child we asked was quick to come up with their reasons why their mom is the best.

"She makes a good dinner," said one boy.

"Because she gives me hugs and kisses," said a thankful girl.

Theresa Hendricks said she was glad the holiday gave her family reason for a reunion.

"It's the first time we've been together for a few years for Mother's Day," she said. "We've all lived in separate provinces and now we're all living close."

This Mother's Day is Marie Rainville's first without her son James, who died of cancer eight months ago.

"My son never forgot me on Mother's Day," she said. "He always brought me flowers and I thought in return I would do the same for him."

Erin Wright is celebrating as a new mother Sunday with her daughter.

"She came 11 days late so we were really excited when she finally arrived," she said. "It's a nice feeling to have someone to share Mother's Day with besides my own mom."
