Freezing rain caused havoc on Highway 401 near Trenton Wednesday morning as several cars and tractor trailers collided or slid off the road.
Several people were rushed to hospital.
The extent of their injuries are not known.
Traffic on the eastbound lanes of the higway near Trenton were closed for more than four hours as police worked to clear the collisions.
Environment Canada says the same freezing rain system is moving eastward and will hit the National Capital region on Wednesday evening and into the Thursday morning rush hour.
