Gatineau Police say an autopsy is needed to determine why a 15-month-old baby girl died at a daycare in the Aylmer sector of Gatineau Monday.

She was one of several children at the home-based daycare when police received the call of an unconscious baby before noon.

The 15-month-old was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Gatineau police spokesperson Isabelle Poirier says the baby celebrated her first birthday in September.

Neighbours tell CTV the daycare operators have three children of their own, and that there are up to eight children in their care.

CTV has learned the owners moved to the high-end subdivision in 2008 and that they were one of the first residents on the street.
