Ottawa Police say a missing seven-year-old girl has been found, and she's safe and sound.

Khalida Musah had been reported missing at around 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

"This morning, the parents noticed the child was missing." said Inspector David Zackrias of Ottawa Police Service. "We searched the area, within a 300-metre radius...There is an investigation on-going to get more details."

Police confirmed she was safely located by 12:00 p.m. not far from where she was last seen in her east-end Ottawa neighbourhood along Tremblay Road.

Ottawa Police are thanking the public for their help finding the missing girl.

"It is a big relief." said Inspector Zackrias. "You can tell the officers felt it; the compassion, the need to locate this child. Even before we completed the full briefing, we were out on the road, the officers showed up here, flooded this area...but I can tell you when we got an update the child was located it was a huge relief for the officers; they were very happy to hear that."

Police said an investigation into the circumstrances surrounding how the young girl went missing is underway.
