Ottawa South MP David McGuinty says he looks forward to his new post as house leader of the Liberal Party.
McGuinty told CTV Ottawa he expects his appointment to help calm the waters between the Conservative and Liberal parties, adding he looks forward to working closely with Conservative house leader John Baird.
Baird, MP for Ottawa West-Nepean, was appointed as the Tory house leader in August.
Although McGuinty says he doesn't expect his relationship with Baird to be confrontational, the two have butted heads in the past, specifically over the environment.
Baird was named environment minister in January 2007, before being appointed as minister of transport in October 2008. During that time, McGuinty was the outspoken environment critic for the Liberal Party.
