After taking cover from a rainy week, the final weekend of the Canadian Tulip Festival had its flowery namesake on full display.

Organizers said the festival, which began May 6 and ends Monday, plans its programming for both rain and shine.

"We try to do as much as we can covered because we are threatened by Mother Nature, but people can enjoy the festival rain or shine," said Brent Gorman, media manager for the festival.

The Northey family said they've come to the festival every year since moving to Ottawa three years ago, and they certainly experience its variety of activities.

"We had lunch from four different countries, taking in some tulips and some shows on stage here," said Karen Northey.

With the tulip festival starting in 1952 and creating $60 million in economic activity every May, even Ottawa's little ones know it's a success.

"Canada has the largest tulip festival in the world," said seven-year-old Abby.

The closing ceremonies for the festival are from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Major's Hill Park.
