Mothers young and old celebrated a day especially for them on Sunday, with some marking their very first Mother's Day as a parent.

There were plenty of activities all over Ottawa that were dedicated to mothers, including a Mother's Day Tea at the Canadian Tulip Festival.

Jolyanne Ricard brought her daughter Angelique out, a few weeks shy of her first birthday.

"It's really special," she said. "It's kind of hard to believe I'm finally a mom."

New mother Rachel Rhine went out to brunch with her daughter Rebecca, who had picked out a necklace as a present to her mom.

"She's very advanced," Rachel said.

The celebrations also helped out charity, as more than 500 people raised more than $2,000 for women's cancer research at The Brookstreet Ballroom, and exercise with the Place d'Orleans Mother's Day Run.

And 108 couples took advantage of the special day to renew their wedding vows at Notre Dame Basilica on Sussex Drive.
