Two fallen RCMP officers killed in Haiti will return to Canadian soil on Friday.

The bodies of Supt. Doug Coates, based in Ottawa, and Sgt. Mark Gallagher, based in the Maritimes, will arrive at CFB Trenton for a repatriation ceremony at about 2 p.m.

Both officers were stationed in Haiti as part of a United Nations training mission.

Coates' joined the RCMP in 1978, and was first stationed in Haiti in 1993. He returned to the country several times, winning service medals for his work there and being named the United Nations acting commissioner in 2009.

His body was found in the rubble at United Nations headquarters in Port-au-Prince on Jan. 16. He leaves behind his wife Lise and their three children, Julie, Mathieu and Luc. Gallagher's body was found last week in the rubble of his home in Haiti. He was serving a nine-month post in the small island nation.

RCMP Commissioner William Elliot and Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Walt Natynczyk will be among those in attendance at the repatriation ceremony.
