Ottawa Police have launched a criminal investigation following the death of a worker at a construction site in March.
Olivier Bruneau died when he was hit by a chunk of falling ice at the site at Carling Avenue and Preston Street where crews are building the Claridge Icon condo.
“[We’re] pleased for sure that this finally happened,” said Sean McKenny, president of the Ottawa and District Labour Council.
McKenny, along with Bruneau’s family, had called for a criminal probe in addition to the ongoing investigation by the Ministry of Labour.
When asked about the criminal investigation, Neil Malhotra with Claridge Homes said “We will not be providing any comment on the matter.”
Bellai Brothers Construction Ltd. did not return calls for comment.
The Ministry of Labour said an investigation could take up to a year to complete.
