The price for bus and O-Train service in the capital will stay the same for the next four months after city council voted to delay a seven per cent fare increase until July.

City council agreed to delay the hike in an effort to boost OC Transpo ridership as the city continues to grapple with the effects of a 54-day transit strike.

Although council voted to freeze fares, a pilot project which would give University of Ottawa students a bass pass was killed.

Council remained divided on the proposal.

While some councillors argued the move would boost ridership among the student demographic, others said the initiative would be too expensive.
