City Councillor Jody Mitic is in some hot water over a controversial social media post.

The Innes Ward Councillor posted a photo showing a shark he helped to catch and kill last week in New Jersey at a charity event for wounded veterans.

Mitic tweeted that he had shot the shark in the face. He admits the wording was a little aggressive so he decided to delete the original tweet.

Councillor Mitic told CTV that “I do acknowledge and even my wife Alana, who was part of the medical team that saved me in Afghanistan and who has more time in uniform and her dad was an airborne commando, even she told me it might have been a little bit hardcore wording. So I acknowledge that that may have contributed a bit to the reaction.”

Mitic said he deleted his original post because it was leading to too many negative comments and he didn't want to detract from the charity event raising money for veterans.
