OTTAWA - The Ottawa Police Service Robbery Unit has laid charges in connection to a recent Vanier retail robbery.
On March 26, 2014, at approximately 11:00 a.m., a lone suspect entered a grocery store situated along the 100 block of McArthur Avenue. The suspect, disguised with sunglasses and a partial face mask, approached a cashier and produced a note making a demand for cash. The suspect then produced a syringe and threatened the cashier. When a second employee intervened, a similar demand and threat was made. The suspect fled the premises with an undisclosed quantity of cash. There were no injuries.
On April 3, 2014, one suspect was arrested in connection to this case. Jason Leblanc, age 40 of Ottawa, was charged with the following offences:
- Two counts of robbery
- Two counts of uttering threats
- One count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
- One count of possession of a weapon
- One count breach of undertaking
Mr. Leblanc appeared in court on April 4, 2014, at which time he was held in custody. He appears next on April 11, 2014.
Additional charges have since been laid against Robert Poulin, also aged 40, of Ottawa. Mr. Poulin has been charged with the following offences:
- Two counts of robbery
- Two counts of uttering threats
- One count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence
- One count of possession of a weapon
- One count breach of undertaking
- One count wear disguise
- One count breach of undertaking
Mr. Poulin was already in custody following a series of robbery charges laid on April 1, 2014 . Mr. Poulin appears in court on the latest charges on April 8, 2014.
