Security workers at Carleton University walked off the job early Monday after a new agreement could not be reached.
Among the top barganing issues: higher pay, better benefits and more job security.
The union represeting the safety workers, OPSEU local 404, says this is the first strike for special constables at a Canadian university.
Garda security guards have been hired on contract during the job action.
The union representing teaching assistants and contract instructors at the school, also in a legal strike position, was still at the bargainging table as of 12:30 a.m. Monday.
The University has said that classes will continue in the event of a strike.
