Calypso water park has pleaded not guilty to all 20 charges of alleged safety violations dating back to 2011.
The trial against the summer attraction located in Limoges, Ont., started in an Ottawa courtroom Wednesday morning.
Ontario’s safety watchdog, The Technical Safety and Standards Authority, says the charges against Calypso are the most serious charges against an amusement park in the province’s history.
The water park’s lawyer asked the court to waive two of the three witnesses expected to testify. The Crown has called the request an extraordinary measure that should not be granted.
The Crown plans to call witnesses who will speak of Calypso’s alleged failure to ensure ride attendants had the proper safety and training.
