Annie Pootoogook was remembered in Ottawa Thursday as a mother, sister, friend and someone who “changed Inuit art forever.”

The Inuit artist was found dead in the Rideau River on Sept. 19. Ottawa Police say elements of her death are considered suspicious .

Her cousin said Pootoogook was “funny, friendly and kind to everybody.”

Pootoogook’s funeral took place in her hometown of Cape Dorset, Nunavut this week.
