Peter Angione is Director of News & Information Programming for Bell Media Ottawa.
Appointed to the position in 2014, Angione is responsible for news and information programming on Ottawa’s top-rated CTV News & Newstalk 580 CFRA. He has overall responsibility for all newsgathering for television, radio, digital & mobile at Bell Media Ottawa. Angione is responsible for CTV News at Noon, CTV News at Five, CTV News at Six & CTV News at 11:30pm. In addition to television, Angione manages Newstalk 580 CFRA’s talk shows, news coverage, website and social media channels.
Prior to this role, Angione was News Director for CTV Ottawa from 2010-2014 and News Director for A-Channel Ottawa (now CTV Two) from 2004-2010.
Under Angione’s leadership, CTV News has consistently remained Ottawa’s #1 newscast and is routinely honored by the industry's most coveted radio and television awards. In 2018, CTV Ottawa received the “Bert Cannings” regional award for Best TV Newscast in a large market by Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTDNA) Canada. The station's numerous RTDNA awards include “Spot News”, “Short Feature”, “Long Feature”, “Sports”, “Creative use of Video” and “Digital” reporting.
Angione was the recipient of the Radio-Television Digital News Association Canada Distinguished Service Award winner for 2012. This award honors a member who has played a major role in the continuing success of RTDNA Canada. Angione was conference chair with RTDNA (Radio-Television Digital News Association) for five years and sponsorship chair for the organization.
Throughout his more than two decades in broadcasting, Angione has worked at television stations across the country – including Halifax, Winnipeg, Edmonton & Barrie. He has covered some of the major stories from around the world – including the 9/11 attacks, the 2014 Parliament Hill shooting and federal, provincial and municipal elections in four provinces. He has held a variety of positions including Senior Producer of News, 6pm, 10pm & 11pm Producer, General Assignment Reporter and Anchor/Reporter.
Under his leadership, Angione has built strong news teams which embraces social media as a compliment to local newscasts. He has also successfully brought his newscasts out into the community - broadcasting full morning shows and evening newscasts from many different locations in the region.
Angione is a graduate of the University of Kings College with a Bachelor of Journalism and Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and History.
Originally from the Maritimes, Angione now calls Ottawa home where he lives with his wife and two daughters, Hannah & Ava.
