The son of an Ottawa firefighter had the chance of a lifetime to meet one of hockey's greatest players.

In a photo posted by Ottawa Fire Services to X, firefighter Bryan Giffen and his son Grayson posed with Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby after Saturday's morning skate at the Canadian Tire Centre.

"Massive shoutout to the entire @penguins organization for going above & beyond today," the post said.

"Grayson is battling cancer and had some aggressive treatments earlier this week but this definitely made his weekend end on a special note."

Giffen said on Facebook that he had "no idea" Grayson would be meeting the star.

"We thought we were coming in for the morning skate not for a kid's dream to come true. The best surprise. Thank you so much for everything," Grayson's mom said on Instagram.

Crosby, 37, is one of the Canada's most storied hockey players, winning three Stanley Cups and scoring his 600th NHL goal last month.

The Ottawa Senators will take on the Penguins at home tonight at 7 p.m.
