OTTAWA - Ontario's police watchdog has charged two Ottawa police officers after it's alleged a 32-year-old man was injured while in their custody.
The Special Investigations Unit says Ismael Awaleh was in police custody at the Queensway-Carleton Hospital on May 1, 2014 when the alleged incident occurred.
Constables Erin Cavan and Jordan Blonde are each charged with one count of assault.
They are due in court Dec. 16.
Ottawa police spokesman Const. Chuck Benoit says only that Cavan and Blonde "remain on active duty."
The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
