Several Ottawa sports fans called an offensive foul on the city's new basketball team over its new name and logo.
The Ottawa Tomahawks are the ninth franchise in the new National Basketball League.
The team name is being slammed on social media.
Ian Campeau, an Ojibway, posted this tweet.
You're setting Ottawa back 30 years with naming your team "Tomahawks".
It's ridiculous and cultural appropriation, tweeted Campeau.
Last summer, Campeau started a social media campaign over the Nepean Redskins football team name.
Team President Gus Takkale says aboriginal groups were consulted over the Tomahawks nickname.
The team will begin play this fall at Scotiabank Place.
