OC Transpo special constables are riding the buses to illustrate more visible security and calm passenger fears about transit crime.
Two platoons of constables will walk the beat at transit stations and interact with passengers on night shifts
The new Walk and Ride program is being introduced after a wave of sexual assaults at transit stations in 2013.
After one day on the buses, OC Transpo says passenger reaction is postive.
"Very strong reaction from the passengers. They like to see the constables on the bus. It will help deter crime and it will be a success," stated James Babe with OC Transpo security.
Babe says the program will ramp up in the summer to include daytime shifts.
There are 48 special constables in the OC Transpo security force.
