About a dozen people are sleeping outside overnight Thursday as part of Operation Come Home’s 24 Hours of Homelessness.

The initiative, now in its 12th year, is aimed at raising awareness around youth homelessness in Ottawa.

More than one thousand young people call Ottawa streets home, said Natalie Elliott with Operation Come Home.

All of the proceeds collected by volunteers will go directly to the organization and will be put toward programs including its breakfast program and counselling services.

Volunteers set up at Bank Street and Gloucester Street and will be there from 4 p.m. Thursday until 4 p.m. Friday.
