Police have charged a 29-year-old Brantford, Ont. man with several offences after Wednesday’s high-speed chase involving a stolen truck.

Matthew Joseph Werner Armstrong faces nine charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and aggravated assault of a peace officer.

Armstrong appeared in court Thursday. He was arrested Wednesday afternoon after allegedly stealing the truck in Cornwall and driving it to Ottawa. Police picked it up on GPS.

Witnesses reported the truck driving out of control and slamming into other vehicles. Video of the chase shows the truck weaving through traffic and mounting the sidewalk, endangering pedestrians.

No one was injured. Police are still looking to speak with witnesses to the incident.

Rob Farmer with Crane Supply in Cornwall says one of their truck was stolen from Crane Supply in Cornwall between 10am-11 am Wednesday morning. He says the keys were in the console of the truck and no one at the site noticed the truck had disappeared.

The Ottawa headquarters of Crane Supply reportedly called the Cornwall site and asked "which one of our guys is heading on the highway towards Ottawa. Because our GPS is showing he's going way too fast".

Police say the driver dumped the vehicle in the Lancaster and Walkley Road area. The suspect fled on foot but was tracked down by the K9 unit a short time later.

Armstrong has been charged with:

*       Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
*       Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
*       Flight while pursued by peace officer
*       Break & Enter with intent
*       Obstruct peace officer
*       Resist arrest
*       Aggravated assault of peace officer
*       Mischief under $5,000
*       Driving while disqualified

He remains in police custody.
