Gatineau Police have identified one of the two men who died after a shooting at a Gatineau home daycare as Robert Charron.
Police would not say whether he was the shooter. They said he is not a resident of Gatineau and would not reveal his age.
The incident happened about 10:25 a.m. at 225 and 229 Rue Gamelin. The two locations act as one business caring for a total of 53 children. Some are babies, most are under the age of 5 years old.
"A call coming from this daycare centre regarding an armed individual with a firearm and he was threatening people," says Mario Harel, Gatineau Police Chief.
Police say shortly after, shots were fired inside the home. Police found the shooter dead inside one of the homes, a shotgun beside his body.
Another man, a daycare worker, was found shot in the other home. He was taken to hospital where he later died of his injuries.
Police say they are investigating the shooting as a possible altercation that may have resulted from a domestic situation.
None of the children were harmed and were evacuated by daycare staff to a neighbour's house.
Many parents rushed to the scene to make sure their children are safe.
"Feeling good that everybody is okay...you can imagine that everybody is getting nervous but now we have to get home and chat about this," says father Manuel Lebris.
"It's scary, terrifying, police... what they told us is everything is under control and then we just waited that's all," says another parent.
Neighbours say a body covered in a tarp was removed from the scene shortly after police arrived.
