OTTAWA -- A former teacher has been sentenced to three years in jail for sexually assaulting two teenage boys decades ago at a military base in Renfrew, west of Ottawa.
Michael Grant Slater, 74, was a teacher at Elizabeth Park School on the former Uplands Military Base when the two assaults occurred in the 1960s and the 1980s.
The Crown had argued for a six- to eight-year prison term for Slater, whom she called a remorseless man.
Slater maintained his innocence even after a jury convicted him in March.
The defence was asking for a conditional sentence.
