Ottawa city staff are looking at four routes to take light rail through western Ottawa, with costs ranging from $562 million to $1.1 billion.

Three of these routes go through former streetcar path Byron Park, according to a report released late Wednesday.

The fourth and cheapest option is through the Ottawa River Parkway, which the National Capital Commission is against.

All the routes in the report go through Ottawa's Westboro community, where residents are already expressing concerns about having train traffic.

Work on getting this portion of the LRT line wouldn't start until the initial light-rail project is done; that one is still in the bidding and planning phase.

The city announced it was looking at the possibility of using bus money for an eastern Ottawa LRT line last week.
