A youth has been convicted of first-degree murder in the death of Michael Oatway on an OC Transpo bus.

Oatway, 23, was stabbed to death after getting into a scuffle with a group of teens on Sept. 21, 2006; he had refused to give up his iPod.

The accused, who was 17 at the time, cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. His family and friends hugged each other when the verdict was announced in court on Friday.

The trial's jury took less than one hour to return the guilty judgment. The Crown will seek to have the man, now 19, sentenced as an adult.
