Residents in Ottawa-Gatineau will no longer get a copy of the residential phone book; instead they are being urged to access the information online.

After examining user habits, Yellow Pages Group has decided not to distribute the phone book in seven Canadian cities: Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, the Ottawa-Gatineau area and Quebec City.

Residents in those cities will only get a phone book if they request one.

Yellow Pages Group says people, particularly in urban areas, tend to use online and mobile resources to look up phone numbers.

The company says the decision will decrease the number of phone books distributed by more than five million copies per year across Canada.

However, the company advises residents the Yellow Pages directory will continue to be delivered in cities that will no longer get the residential directory.

Residents who want to either obtain a copy of the residential directory, or opt out of the Yellow Pages service, can call YPG Distribution Services at 1-800-268-5637 or visiting http://ypg.com/delivery.
