A Wakefield woman rescued from the frigid waters of the Gatineau River is offering her heartfelt thanks to those who saved her.
Gatineau police released a letter from Margaret Rapkoski to first responders.
“It was still dark and I knew instantly I was in grave danger. Miraculously, I survived,” she writes.
On November 27, the 52-year-old Wakefield business owner was driving at around 6:20 a.m. when her car skidded on the icy, snow-covered road and drove into the Gatineau River.
“I simply would not be alive today without the incredibly quick, courageous response of these wonderful men,” Rapkoski adds in the letter.
She thanks everyone who helped her through the ordeal from the off-duty firefighter who first arrived on scene, the flatbed operator who jerry-rigged his crane to help save her, to the men and women who later treated her in hospital.
Rapkoski says she hopes these people are commended for their heroic efforts.
“will always hold you dearly in my heart and soul and will never forget you,” she writes.
