Woman in serious condition after Preston Street fire

OTTAWA - A 77-year-old woman was sent to hospital in serious but stable condition after an apartment fire in Ottawa.

Emergency crews rescued an unconscious woman from a fourth floor unit on Preston Street at Albert Street Sunday night after getting numerous 911 calls.

Paramedics say the woman suffered severe smoke inhalation but was stabilized on the way to hospital.

The fire, which broke out in a kitchen, caused $150,000 damage to one unit at 10 Preston Street.

There is no word on the exact cause of the blaze.
