A woman in her 50s is dead following a stabbing on Anna Ave. in west Ottawa Tuesday afternoon.

Police and paramedics responded to what began as a medical call just after 1:00 p.m. on Anna Ave. near General Ave., which is in the city’s Carlington area.

Police say when the first paramedic got to the scene, he witnessed the victim being stabbed by a man in his 40s.

"Police attended a short time later. The female was transported to hospital with life threatening injuries. She has since succumbed to her injuries. The male was taken into custody a short time later," said Duty Inspector, Michael Marin.

Police have arrested a man in his 40s, who remains in custody.

Witnesses say the man was sitting naked on the lawn when he was arrested, covered in blood.

"When i ran around the corner and saw that, it was like something out of a horror movie," say Lorraine Cannon, a neighbour who rushed to help.

The Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ottawa Police.

This is Ottawa’s 5th homicide of the year.
