One woman is dead after being struck by a garbage truck west of downtown Ottawa Thursday afternoon.
Police say it happened at 3:15 p.m. near Merivale Road and Caldwell Avenue.
Drivers are being told to avoid the area. Northbound lanes on Merivale between Caldwell and Central Park are closed while police investigate.
Officials tell CTV Ottawa an elderly woman was the victim of the crash.
