Ottawa police have laid a traffic charge against the woman who allegedly opened her door and knocked a cyclist into the path of a car in Ottawa this month.

Police said 41-year-old Kathy Chow is charged with Open Vehicle Door Improperly under the Highway Traffic Act in the incident, which killed 33-year-old Danielle Nacu.

Police say no other charges are expected in this case.

Nacu was biking on Queen Street in downtown Ottawa on Oct. 11 when she was hit by a car door, knocking her off her bike and into the path of an oncoming Volkswagen just before 9:00 a.m.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A week later, her brother led a tribute ride down the street in her memory and to promote cycling safety.
