Ontario provincial police have laid second-degree murder charges against the wife of a man killed in a small community about three hours northwest of Ottawa eight years ago.

Police laid the charges on Tuesday, following an extensive investigation into the death of Robert Minor who was found dead in his Mattawa home on Jan. 11, 2002.

Emergency crews located his body when they were called to the couple’s home to battle a fire.

Minor’s body was found in the basement of the home. A post-mortem revealed he died of a single stab wound to the chest.

Police arrested and charged Marieanne Minor, 53, on Tuesday. She appeared in court to face the charges on Wednesday.
