Thousands of people have been waiting hours in line outside of Apple stores for the new and shiny iPhone 5.

“I put my alarm for 3 a.m. in the morning. As soon as the pre-order button was available I pre-ordered my iphone 5,” said Jeremy Bellefeuille.

But many people don’t know that buying the smart phone in stores comes with a catch.

Apple stores in Canada are only selling the iPhone 5 locked into a three year contract.

Bellefeuille’s online order has no contract. He is committement free.

“To find out I would've had to sign a contract I would've walked out. I wouldn't have purchase that phone,” said Bellefeuille.

Those commitment free phones are commanding top dollar on websites like Kijiji and Craigslist.

“The price is increasing every day,” said Kris Lapenskie, who is in the business of reselling new iPhones. “Ideally, we'd be looking at about $1200.”

That’s more than $500 above the original price.

This has Bellefeuille thinking he may turn around and sell his pre-ordered phone.

“I could probably double the price of the phone and get mine free at that point,” said Bellefeuille.
