After two people were stabbed in front of a Barrhaven Shoppers Drug Mart on Friday, police say they have a warrant to arrest an Ottawa man on an accusation of attempted murder and kidnapping, among others.

Claude Legare faces an arrest for attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, attempted kidnapping, and three counts of breach of recognizance.

The incident left two people with stab wounds when the attack took place at 4 p.m. in front of the Shoppers near Strandherd and Greenbank roads.

Family members confirm Brenda Van Leyen, a Canada Post employee, had recently left her boyfriend. Also injured was a 21-year-old Shoppers employee who jumped in to help. Van Leyen is listed in serious condition, while the employee was treated in hospital and released.

While responding to the stabbing, a police cruiser struck a pedestrian. A 43-year-old Shoppers employee was sent to hospital with leg and head injuries.
