Warm weather could lead to flooding along Rideau River

Warmer temperatures this week are increasing the flood risk along the Rideau River, with waterflows expected to reach their peak this weekend.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority has said the spring weather is expected to cause the remaining snow on the Rideau River watershed to melt and run off.

The authority says it's possible for water to rise over low-lying areas, particularly those between Kemptville and Kars, and along the lower Kemptville Creek.

Flooding is not expected to affect buildings, but shallow water could cover some neighbourhood roads. Public roadways are not expected to flood.

The authority says the increased waterflow makes it dangerous for people to be around the river, and parents are advised to keep their children away from the fast-moving streams.
