It's the lifeline the Wakefield Steam Train has been waiting for; $500,000 worth of funding has been secured to help keep the train in the region.

The money came from the province of Quebec, Ottawa Tourism and several west Quebec municipalities.

The group responsible for helping to save the train hopes it will be back in operation by 2013, but millions more is needed to help repair the tracks.

The train attracts 55,000 tourists each year.
