The La Peche municipality is mulling whether its natural spring water should be free for all or a revenue source.
The mayor is musing charging non residents a fee. It would be a way to off-set the tens of thousands spent maintaining the spring.
The mayor told the local paper it could help the municipality "realize our dreams". "This might a way to generate revenue... That's the way the mayor sees it, " says Nikki Mantell, the publisher of The Low Down.
The pristine spring has been an important drinking source since at least the 1950's. It's popular too. 3000 from Wakefield get their water here year round, despite have potable tap water.
2000 more come from West Quebec and Ontario for the water.
