The Rideau centre is launching a 360 million dollar redevelopment project. Today's soil-turning ceremony marked the start of the 3 year expansion and construction project. In total there will be 230, 000 square feet of new space.

New stores will include Nordstrom, Victoria's Secret, J Crew and Simon's - a popular Quebec based clothing store. The President of Simons, Peter Simons says the expansion will " completely change the face the Rideau street and upgrade the downtown core."

Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson agrees, saying  "for far too many years this part of the city was ignored but when you see the kinds of investments taking place, we are putting our money where our mouth is."

The project will be complete by August of 2016.
